Welcome to this introduction to R.E.A.L. School – A Program in Innovation!

The R.E.A.L. School program, initiated by Farley Flex and designed in partnership with 6 other program animators/facilitators, is a comprehensive and innovative program for youth. The purpose of the R.E.A.L. School: Youth Leadership Development program is expressed in our slogan, “Get REAL and BEcome the LEADER in your Life!” Aimed at helping as many youth as possible to explore what it means to create a life based on the powerful expression of authenticity rooted in the truth of who they really are!

R.E.A.L. School was created to help youth become aware of how the social networking sites available through the internet such as “facebook” and “twitter” are indeed connecting them to each other and literally to the world. Yet, what we believe may be lacking for many youth today is a strong and clear connection to themselves – to their REAL identity, to their personal truth and to a passion for living that flows from an understanding of the unique gifts and talents with which they were born!

To help youth in making this connection back to themselves, R.E.A.L. School was designed as an 8-Step process where the youthful participants of our program are guided through 8 week-long sessions of 5 days duration each. The R.E.A.L. School program begins by assisting youth to understand the impact that computer technology and “pop culture” has in shaping their identity. Each step of the R.E.A.L. School program helps youth to shift and to expand their consciousness of themselves, others and the world around them. This gift of self-knowledge and self-understanding includes exploration into the loss of their cultural identity and provides the youth with skills for managing anger and conflict. The youth are introduced to various types of energy-based relationships and are given insight into the practices of our ancient cultures through contemporary activities focusing on energy work and connections to the land and water designed to help the youth become comfortable with the great outdoors. Eventually, the youth will experience various land-based skills for survival and will be exposed to various traditional cultural practices for living on the land related to hunting, fishing, ceremony and the use of natural plant medicines. Near the end of R.E.A.L. School, the youth are asked to design and to deliver a community-based project or program that includes their parents, community members, and in some cases, their school teachers….it will be all up to them and their envisioned program design!

In addition, R.E.A.L. School trains youth animators/facilitators who are selected in partnership with R.E.A.L. School program staff and the community, agency, school or school board representatives involved. These youth animators are individuals who are dedicated to working with youth and will accompany the R.E.A.L. School program animators through every step of the R.E.A.L. School process. Certificates recognizing these Youth Leaders and Program Animators are awarded upon the successful completion of their training culminating in a demonstration of their own version of a R.E.A.L. School program for Youth as the 8th Step or final week of the program.

The R.E.A.L. School: Youth Leadership Development program is unique in its design. Individual program segments of one week in duration can be purchased as ‘stand alone’ sessions and it is possible to mix and match program segments to create a youth program of your own. However, in choosing this option, we would like to stress that the program outcomes should be discussed with the R.E.A.L. School Program Administrators and adjusted to fit any new program devised.

To assist youth in developing the inner resources necessary to break free from a false sense of self, R.E.A.L. School must meet youth exactly where they are—and gently work to awaken them from any desire for imitation. Then by Challenging them to develop the power of Conscious Choice, the youth are drawn into the “inner world of self” by becoming Curious about their potential and developing the Courage and Commitment to make the Changes necessary to BE who they really are. Their success in becoming their own person and the LEADER in their life will be demonstrated by their ability to consistently choose themselves by Communicating their needs, expressing the truth of their experience and articulating and living their passion.
